How many people can say that deep down, they truly believe they are doing what they are supposed to be doing? Like most people, I struggled to find my purpose - what was I doing with my life? My passion had always been music - performing, recording, and producing - and I was certainly NOT going to spend my life as a photographer. My father was a photographer for a living - and I literally grew up in a portrait studio / photo lab.
I started working for my dad's business full-time in my early twenties, for what I thought would be a stepping stone in life. I remember the first time he put the camera in my hands, and he still talks about how it instantly changed me from a quiet, soft-spoken young man into an outgoing, energetic professional. And even though I sharpened my skills doing every type of photography imaginable - it still wasn't my passion. It was just a paycheck.
In 2013, my dad decided to retire from photography. I was coming up on 30, and it put me at one of the biggest crossroads of my life. The only marketable skills I had were in photography, but was I really going to start my own photography business - and be a photographer for the rest of my life? With nothing else to fall back on, that's exactly what I did. I used the skills I had learned and was available for any type of photography that would put food on the table (which at first wasn't so easy). I seriously can't thank my dad enough. He was an amazing teacher, and he really set me up for success. Not to mention my last name was associated with photography in my small town of Lexington for decades. As my business grew, so did my passion for creating better, more impactful art - and I found myself turning down other work to focus solely on weddings.
It's funny how people change - and find themselves in the process. And guess what I found... a passion for photography! The challenging situations I face, the satisfaction of making people feel beautiful, and the creativity it allows push me to keep growing and learning. And more importantly, I've found a passion for weddings. I absolutely love everything about weddings. I know I'm at risk of having my "manliness" in question... but I don't care. Every weekend I get reminded how real and powerful love is. Those couples that just radiate with joy also fill my heart with joy. It's true. Let me be a part of your big day, and trust me with your most precious memories - and I will give your wedding 100% of my heart and dedication. Wedding photography isn't just a paycheck anymore, it is my life's mission.
If your celebration is centered around love, if you still get butterflies when you look at each other, if your heart pounds with excitement when you think of walking down the aisle - I want to shoot your wedding. I'm looking for couples who are just as passionate about each other as I am about shooting weddings. If that's you, I'd love to meet and discuss the plans for your big day!
