Why You Need a Wedding Video

For the last three years, I've been producing highlight films for weddings around Columbia, SC. Coming from a photography background, it has been so exciting to express my art in a new format. Wedding videography doesn't replace photography, but compliments it. Video tells the story in a way still images can't, and vice versa. After doing these videos a few years (see my collection on the video page of my website), I've really seen the benefits of wedding videography, and here's some reasons you should consider investing in one for your wedding.

With a highlight film, you can tell the entire story of your wedding in less than 10 minutes. Your friends and loved ones would have to look through hundreds of pictures to see the entire wedding story, and most won't. Instead they'll see the handful of highlight images you post through social media. But a video is meant to be shared! Your friends and family will literally cry watching the cinematic beauty of your wedding, and share it with others. And it's the perfect length for you to watch on your anniversary every year, to re-live your most precious day.

A highlight film also tells MORE of the story than photos can. Movement adds so much dynamic to the story-telling process. And sound opens up a whole new universe of possibilities. Vows, speeches, toasts, music, and cheering can all be documented for memory. This is a great way to remember details that would otherwise be lost forever.

A wedding film is quite difficult to produce well. In my opinion it requires at least two videographers to be present the entire day. It also requires extensive editing afterwards. I often spend over 30 hours editing a highlight film that is less than 10 minutes long! For these reasons, wedding videography is often as expensive or more expensive than the wedding photography. And since videography won't replace the photography, you'll have to consider if videography is within your budget. In my opinion, photography is mandatory while videography is optional. However, if you can afford it, I think wedding videography is a great investment, and will maximize your overall wedding investment by allowing you to remember your special day in vivid detail. Thanks for reading! I'm Trevor Mercer, a wedding photographer from Columbia, SC. I've been photographing weddings for over 10 years, and as a second-generation wedding photographer, I literally grew up in the business. I'm now providing wedding photography and videography for weddings in my state and well beyond, and I'm a 2016 winner in the Knot's Best of Weddings. I decided to start a blog and share everything I've learned about weddings through the years, and I hope it helps make your wedding planning a little easier.
